It should be about what kind of person they are to me - hence they're my friend. They may be bigoted or hold views I disagree with, but if the're there for me what do I care.

For me, it's not just about how they treat me though, I care about how they treat others. For example, I wouldn't be friends with a child rapist just because they were nice to me.
