Again it is just a rumor. They could have just based it off of a bit of well known facts. In the original source, the author mentions how it will look and control similar to SM 64 and SM Sunshine. Well no shit, it was shown in the trailer.

No it's when they go into details like "oh there's an ice world that connects to a fire world, and here's a list of eight other things my 13-year-old self wants in a Mario game" ... that stuff is basically code for faker than a 90s porn star's boobs.
