They likely are looking down the barrell of a fiscal loss this year even with Switch (2 million shipped isn't good enough) since they don't have any more baseball teams (last I checked) to sell and currency situation is not in their favor right now. Mario Run needs to bail them out but they need every last 3DS and Pokemon 3DS sale they can get, marketing the Switch straight away as a portable system wouldn't be prudent. 

It doesn't really matter, no one but the purest Nintendo slogan purists are gonna look at that thing and not see a Nintendo tablet. 

The mini-nes should not be forgotten for bringing in profits. Isn't it all sold out already?

Nintendo being the geniuses they are will only make 100,000 of them and then act all shocked when it's sold out and have a second shipment ... in Feburary.
