PS4 shipments tracking behind PS2 for the first time right before PS4pro. If Sony keep supporting PS4 as long as they did with their previous homeconsole (might need a ps4ProPlus or PsVR2), PS4 and this gen as a whole might set some new records.

I absolutely believe there will be a PS4 Pro + and PSVR Pro before we see PS5. The leap in tech to make PS4 completely obsolete won't happen for many more years. We need SSD's to drop in cost, and HBM Memory to reach larger pool sizes before that happens. PS5 to be even close to the same leap as previous generations has to have 40TF of power and 128GB of RAM. Even at that, with deminishing returns, it still won't have the wow people expect. If PS5 comes in 2018 like a lot of people are saying, there will be a lot of disappointed people that, and the worst selling PS home console of all time.

Well they are a lot of potential upgrades and new tech options before the PS5 come out, including a PS4 portable by the time PS5 come out and a native 4K option on PS4proPlus, a 1TB SSD  version, a PSVR with an integrated GPU upscaling the resolution and the obvious PS4proSlim.

Waiting for 2020 before releasing a next gen console would be beneficial for everyone as they could wait for native 4K withot sacrificing polycount and effects.
