I have an extension running to the 2.1 system, there's a jack in the volume control on my desk, plugging in the headphones mutes the speaklers automatically. I can also plug it into a USB adapter with a built-in soundcard and connect it to the front of my PC tower, that way I can have 7.1 surround in my headphones, which is neat for gaming.
