Why last generation was so long, and what it might mean for this gen.

HDTVs weren't necessary for the PS3 & 360 to function. I got a 360 about 3-4 years before I got an HDTV.

I know they weren't necessary but you were often told that to truly experience the PS3 you needed a HDTV. I suppose people feel similar about the PS4Pro and 4K TVs. 

I'm not saying this is the only reason, but for many it was an additional reason not to jump in early.
