Perhaps you should get a Wii U this holiday season.  I know it is terrible to recommend a dying system but if you never owned a Wii or Wii U then that is your best chance for both.  Most classic Wii games are still cheap or within reasonable price on Amazon and you can pick up a decent amount of Wii U titles cheap through the select series.  I'd suggest getting at least one pro controller and perhaps a Wiimote + nunchuck (can get cheap off Nintendo site refurbed).

Never liked the Wii-mote, prefer traditional controllers. Wii-mote was fun for Wii Sports and similar games, but I found the controls to be more of a hassle than a boon in traditional games like Zelda TP and even SMG. MK8 with wii-mote was horrible compared to regular controls or even the Gamepad.

I'll look into it, the last Nintendo console I owned was a N64, so it's overdue and then some...
