I've been saying passive cooling as a portable and active cooling when docked for a long time but going by those development specs it may not even need active cooling it may simply be like a laptop where you have a performance plan with everything at full speed and a battery saver plan where everything is dialed back. Saying that the dock is shaped like a toaster so the tablet is in close contact for most of the surface which is ideal for active cooling. It may be Nintendo have opted again for a cheaper fabrication process which means it will run hotter and be more power hungry then active cooling would be important. No way are Nintendo going to put extra processing power in the dock because that is not cost efficient and would be wasted money. We know that would not be their approach because they cost everything down to the bare minimum.

There are what clearly appears to be vents on the top side of the system (to the right of the cartridge slot). I'm guessing it has an active fan.
