2 Items on NSwitch MK is the mechanic chosen because of the name of the console?

2 Items, and you can switch between them. The new console name (and concept) is switch. MK8 ready.

BAAAAM: name it 'Mario Kart 8: Switch'.

Almost zero effort for tons of sells and a product that market the own console. Just by chose a mechanic in a game already out that is the name of the console.
