Actually, it's my opinion. |
You may be right, but the flipside to that is this thing may potentially have one of the greatest attach rates ever because a consumer doesn't have to decide between two different Nintendo devices on which to spend. There is no, "Should I get SSB on 3DS or Wii U? Should I get MK7 because I can take it with me, or should I get the superior version in MK8? Should I wait and see if Monster Hunter comes to Wii U, because I'd rather play it on a big screen with a more comfortable controller, or should I suck it up and get it on 3DS?". Nintendo and publishers make one game without worrying about which system to support, and you either buy the game you don't.
Also, let me flip your question around: how many people do you know that own a 3DS that do not own a Wii U? Of those people, how many would gladly acquire Wii U games if they were on the 3DS, but don't to make the financial investment for the console itself, especially when Wii and Wii U games are being ported to the 3DS left and right? The Switch addresses that.
I'm not pretending to know how well the Switch will fair; I have no clue, and my name isn't Michael Pachter. All I'm saying is that I don't see how this thing is doomed for instant failure.
