At the moment, Smash Bros. is easily the bigger and more popular franchise than Street Fighter. I don't really see how SF could be bigger anymore, especially since the last non-crossover fighter released in the series was SF3, IIRC.

Third Parties seem to be really reluctant to compete head-on with Nintendo on a Nintendo system, no matter what - or that's what they say. Personally, I think it's just a convenient excuse to ignore the Wii in favor of the HD systems.
I've never thought SSBB could be that big for a bridge game, and I thought its for non gamers and for casuals, I never thought its as core game as Street Fighter

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out
