You're thinking to much about the final game and not about the initial concept for the game.
Super Mario Maker could have very much be a game about making platform levels. Have you heard of a game called Little Big Planet?
Not everything has to use an existing IP, Splatoon almost became a Mario Game, on the other hand Kirby Yarn at first was supposed to be a new IP.
The reality is that if Nintendo were convinced that those games would sell more by being new IPs instead of Mario games, we would have a lot more new IPs. But well, they are lazy, and they just care about new gameplay ideas and not enough about how they package those ideas.
If the NX doesn't have at least 3 new IPs from Nintendo between march and the end of the year. I'm out. I won't buy it.
I'm tired of things like Mario Sport mix, that's just lazy. Screw this
