I liked Metroid Other M, basically because I just ignored the cinematics and played it as an action game rather than expecting it to be Super Metroid 2.
The play mechanics while a bit cumbersome at first become oddly satisfying after a while, like dodging attacks from a boss and then quickly shifting to first person to blow it away with missles just felt terrific.
It's a shame actually that it wasn't just it's own original IP (no Metroid characters but same gameplay otherwise) because I think in that case many people would be asking for a sequel.
