1st, we're already in the holiday season marketing window. The majority of new product demand is for Christmas gifts, not something coming out next Spring.
2nd, Nintendo is doing what most successful products do, unveiling close to the launch date, not a huge amount of time in advance. The problem with these long runways that some products do is that they run out of steam before launch. Unveiling in January means that Nintendo is unveiling in the correct window, AND they'll be able to maintain the unveil buzz until launch, since there's no Christmas in the way.
3rd, there is not that much time left in October. The lower the amount of time, the lower the probability.
