Could have been I suppose ...  Their magazine was Nintendo Power, and they had gold points in a rewards program, then you had the gold carts (zelda), and lastly some systems that were clad in 24k gold ...

Oh yeah it was the Nintendo Gold and Platinum points system I was thinking of their old tiers of the Nintendo reward system for buying lots of their games.
