Because lets be fair to Nintendo in one regard, the Wii/U name and confusion blunder was not the first time they used a naming scheme on 2 generations before, Don't forget that in Gen 3 they had Nintendo Entertainment System and in Gen 4 they just added Super to make it the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, a move which could be rather confusing if it was marketed as badly as the WiiU was (a lot of people still think it was either an addon or a portable system which required a Wii system) |
No matter what the name is, someone somewhere will find ways to twist it into something negative. Nintendo named their console Wii. It sounds like another word for piss, then they named their next console Wii U. They dont care what people think of it, they only care that people will remember it.
