This is a great point. They wouldn't be so secretive about a handheld with a TV dongle.  

I think they are scared some cheap tablet maker in China or Taiwan or Samsung will make a tablet with the swappable controller wings gimmick. 

It probably will be copied a lot but Nintendo wants their 6-8 month window to crow about being a special snowflake. Sony/MS are not the only ones that Nintendo has to think about, in fact Sony/MS are really not even the primary competetion any longer really. If the NX is what is being described in leaks, then they're basically leaving Sony/MS to the home console market.
