On one hand maybe Nintendo's embrace of smartphones could be a net positive in that they can take out their "need" to appeal to casuals and beginner gamers on the smartphone rather than creating an entire platform to that idea and trying to balance it out so more experienced players can also play. 

I'm sure they'll still make "core" Nintendo titles like Zelda and Super Mario, in fact the NX will need to now have more "epic" versions of those games to justify the need for dedicated hardware versus just making a controller on iPhone and letting everyone play that way. 

For example now that "Super Mario Run" is on mobile and taking care of beginner/casual players, maybe Nintendo can push the console Mario platformers a bit. The NSMB series was really getting stagnant. 

But I agree, once Nintendo gets a taste of the massive profit smartphone apps can generate ... they could very well get the wrong message and start shifting priorities. Money talks. 

That was my hope when they first announced their mobile games, but it doesn't make sense, Nintendo has no plans for core gamers, right now they are aiming at everyone or just casuals, and I don't see why that would change.

I would have been really happy if Nintendo kept taking care of core gamers alongside the casual market, but I don't see it happening. They're dumbing down their games more and more each years. Mor mario, Kirby, Animal crossing, Pokemon. Meanwhile Starfox, Metroid, and others are dying IPs.

It's just sad.

Pokemon is much more complex than Gens I/II. Do you not realize how sophisticated the game actually is? 

 

Not just that- Sun/Moon is finally bringing a change- a good one. It has no sign of Pokemon being dumbed down.

 

 

As for animal crossing, in what way is it dumbed down? Are you talking about the spinoffs no one cares about? Or the main series? I'll understand if you're talking about the spinoffs. as for the main series, it was always extremely kid-friendly.
