Think it has been mentioned before but mutliplats have roughly the same size between platforms, so that's certainly not exclusive to Xbox1. There are tons of huge patches out there for all kinds of games.
With Halo 5 and Halo MCC you definitely chose some of the biggest games on X1 though.
Sounds like you don't even have Gold. Why have your console connected to the internet then? Just stay offline and you wouldn't need to download any update. The vast majority of the Halo updates are Multiplayer fixes and maps and stuff. And if you do, just do it overnight. Just leave the console on instant-on.
