I think Bill Gates offered Mr. Yamauchi $20 billion for Nintendo in the late 90s and was still interested circa 2004, but Yamauchi turned the offer down (though he *did* consider it apparently, he did not say no straight away).
Keep in mind $20 billion in 1999 inflation adjusted is almost 30 billion today.
As fas some type of purchase goes, Nintendo is waaaay out of Sony's league, Nintendo would be a target that only the "big boys club" like Google, Apple, and MS would have the money for.
