I am curious as to why you think Retro has so much potential? This seems like a common myth among Internet Nintendo fans. Retro was being built up to be an independent studio, with Metroid Prime 3 being the project they had the most independence on. But the game didn't turn out to be anything special aside from the IR aiming. They then went back to being more dependent with DKCR, and even more outside help with DKCTF. They are not a very productive studio, and few people seem to work there very long, as their staff seems to change up heavily from game to game since Metroid Prime 2. |
In my opinion every one of their games has been superbly crafted, that's why. Recently however, they've been relegated to the kind of games EAD could just have easily made, which is a bit of a waste. As Nintendo's only major Western studio they should be bringing something fresh to the first party catalogue, not being just another EAD studio producing homogenous candy-coated platformers.
