I'm pretty good at reading people, and after watching a lot of that clowns Sean's interviews you can tell he knew exactly what game he was making and knew exactly how it was going to be received.
Luckily for him he had sony to market the hell out of it to ensure it became one of the most anticipated games this gen. At this stage regardless of the quality, the game is going to sell like hot cakes.
People have jokingly called certain games tech demos in the past. This is something else entirely. It's like a tech demo on a whole new level and an exercise is marketing. Any time sony feel they have a dud on their hand, just bring in the guys who marketed NMS.
