I'm kind of neutral when it comes to race. I'm proud of my national ancestry because vikings are cool and their mythology was beautiful. But I don't feel any connection to the ancestry of other white europeans. Other than happiness that we gave the christians a bloody nose before they erased much of our culture.
Being ahamed of your race because of past crimes is stupid. Every human being in the past were assholes when they got power. The mongols slaughtered people. The arabs did sex slavery on a huge scale (allthough that's kind of hot when I think about it). The aztecs did horrific ritual sacrifices, etc etc. Everyone was an asshole in the past. There's no point in feeling shame for things you did not commit.
But sometimes past oppression can echo well into today. Like in America. Because of slavery most african americans started out in poverty. And because of low social mobility it still affects people today. And there are still assholes on some news channels (*cough* fox *cough*) who tries to blame them for it.
