Actually even on the GameCube most multiplats sold way better on the PS2 and even XBox. Things like Soul Calibur 2 were the rare case of a GameCube version selling on par or slightly better because they put Link into the game.

But the GameCube still did get a lot of third party games.

Wii and Wii U's problem is the hardware simply can't adequetely run the versions of games that developers are making, not without serious sacrifices or having to rebuild the game from scratch.

It's entirely possible NX is in the same boat.

Gamecube did not get the important tird party games. It got okay japanese support and token western support. It didn't even have GTA. Of course the audience would primarily be on other platforms when Gamecube got treated so poorly.

It didn't have GTA, MGS2/3, and Final Fantasy primarily but that's because Sony had exclusivity deals in those days and that wouldn't happen today because games cost too much to develop for a third party to do that sort of thing with a major release.

Nintendo still had their share of exclusives/premiere titles ... Resident Evil REMake, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II and III, Monkey Ball, MGS: Twin Snakes, Sonic, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles exclusive and Viewtiful Joe first. And most Western third party multiplats like Madden NFL, SSX, Prince of Persia, 007: Everything or Nothing, Time Splitters 2, Soul Calibur 2, Beyond Good & Evil, FIFA, Lord of the Rings, NBA Street, etc. were on the system at least.

lol, compared to what Nintendo gets these days, the GameCube was a freaking oasis of third party support.
