Apparently I hate myself. I was browsing Youtube, and found out that Funimation finished dubbing Assassination Classroom in English. I don't really like dubs, but I've seen a few Funimation shows I was impressed with, so I thought I'd watch that scene to see what I thought of it.
Wow...that was bad.
I can't speak for the whole cast, but whoever voices Koro-sensei decided that a completely average dude's voice would fit the character somehow. Obviously I'm biased, since I watched the Japanese first, but I honestly can't imagine such an energetic and absurd character acting so...normal. I suppose it might work during his flashback as The Shinigami, but obviously I would expect him to sound different in his present state. It was completely immersion-breaking, and kinda made me mad, since all the emotions I felt watching the original version of his death scene were completely lost with such a flat delivery. I wasn't sold on any of the crying either...especially with how amazing the seiyus for the students performed in the original.
Anyway...rant over. I'll try not to judge all dubs by this...but it doesn't make me want to try any new ones anytime soon.
