I'm sure it will. But the base station/SCD is most likely designed to sit at your home and be plugged in at all times. You just plop in the tablet and play/charge. I expect two SKUs, and the portable-only version would just have a plug. |
I actually don't expect two SKUs.
The NX is the NX and the appeal of it is going to be that it does "everything, everywhere". That's your SKU and Nintendo is going to throw everything at that concept and emphasize the lower price. There's never really been a major console that can do what the NX can hypothetically do, so they have to make hay on that message.
SCD will in my opinion just be an optional accessorie for people who really cannot deal with lower rung graphics on their TV. And that's fine. Enthusiasts don't need to be the priority, just give them an option so they can stop crying and let that be that.
If they have multiple SKUs I think the problem is it muddies the message a bit too much and causes confusion for the regular consumer like "well if I buy the cheap NX, am I getting ripped off somehow?", I don't think Nintendo wants that. When you have two SKUs and one is cheaper people invariably go with the "oohhhh, I see what you're trying to do, you're trying to rip me off with this cheap SKU, but basically your system really costs $100+ more, that's basically the same as this PS4 Neo over here". You don't want that. This is why the 8GB Wii U for $50 less didn't work out so great.
