As long as its plug and play (should be something easy, like inserting a cartridge into a Super NES), and there aren't like multiple different docks it should be fairly straight forward.
The people who want the SCD are likely enthusiast/graphics-centric gamers so they'll have some knowledge of this stuff, but I'd guess Nintendo would keep it simple.
It should be kept simple for developers too so they can support the SCD if they want, but it's only one config they need to worry about.
