Yes, but their report on 3DS came much farther away from launch (16 months), and wasn't backed up by mutiple other sources the way this report on NX has been. Plus, they ran the 3DS speculation through Digital Foundry initially, whereas this NX report was pushed as a news story from EG itself, rather than a speculative technical piece from DF. In addition, Nvidia have now confirmed there will be no new Shield tablet device, which strengthens the suggestions Nvidia have won a major contract for Tegra and that the device in question would be NX. Nintendo have the potential to shift tens of millions of units of NX, which is far above what another Shield tablet would sell. Plus, recently filed patents show the detachable controllers for a portable device concept EG were claiming as NX's core idea. Granted Nintendo don't use every patent they file, but it shows that EG have had solid information about whatever's going on in Nintendo's R&D. |
Nvidia leaving the tablet business could also be a indication that they are focusing on their smart car initiative. The tablet market isn't a big seller if you're selling your tablets for big cash. But in the smart car market they could be getting in on the ground floor of something bigger. Again Eurogamer were positive about something before and were wrong. All they'll say its no skin off their backs and roll on. Meanwhile people who were waiting for Nintendo to reveal NX had to listen to a bunch of stuff that didn't happen.
