It's really easy actually. I've watched tv shows before animes and then decided they're all crap, so I switched to anime. Anime is fun and colorful and unique while tv shows are always the same drama crap.

I dunno about that. I'm watching Stranger Things right now, and it seems like Netflix has a handle on how not to be standard network television. Game of Thrones is also pretty solid. I've also watched some amazingly crap anime though, with so much of it being the same recycled concepts and characters, so I guess it all has its good points and bad points.

Of all that I've seen from those great shows like GoT or Breaking Bad it seemed fairly standard fare. It's not about the lowest qualities but what hight a medium can reach. I think I've seen the top of tv shows but none of that comes even close to the best of anime. Show me one tv show that's as epic as Kill La Kill, as funny as Azumanga Daioh or as twisted as Higurashi.

I'm not blaming tv though, that medium simply does not have the creative ability to compete with anime's unlimited potential.
