Has any handheld ever successfully been priced as a console? People won't be willing to drop more than $250 for a handheld. Just look at the 3ds. It was a flop when it started out at $250, but it was saved when it dropped to $180

This isn't a "handheld". It's a hybrid console. There's never been anything like this really so using past examples for the future doesn't make sense. 

There HAS been a console that was woefully underpowered moreso than the Tegra X1 is to an XBox One ... that was called the Wii. That did OK. 

Inflation adjusted that would cost right around $299.99 today.
