Huh... Why? He's basically trying to do just what you said he should do: he can't save them by charging in so he tried to have powerful allies, he failed to get some so he's trying to escape the confrontation before it begins. His reasoning is good, even if his negotiation skills are bad (but who doubted it against politics professionals who are his enemies?). Your second edit is the complete opposite of your original post...
By the way, the last thing we saw has already been partially explained, they weren't able to use this road when they left the next day because of some fog, caused by what he saw... Judging by what they said then, there is a good chance they'll die, but we should learn new things quickly. |
He did, finally--and made a complete fool of himself. Screaming and demanding help based on nothing but his word? Threatening people far more powerful than him? Alienating everyone, even snapping at Rem when her sister's life is on the line? It doesn't make any sense to begin with how much influence he has, so why he thinks he has even more than that is beyond me. He acted like a self-righteous asshole. I would have turned him down, too.
I understand the premise. He does everything wrong the first time. And the second time. And sometimes the third time, too. His ONLY redeeming feature is his reset, yet he's still arrogant as hell.
Only at the very end did he come up with a decent plan and that was halfway based on a lucky meeting.
