Then why doesn't EA just put all of their games on their "service" and not launch any more individual games on consoles and pc? Because the service is not viable in and of itself compared to the other option. They profit more with individual releases of their games on all platforms. Also a gaming service still reguires a platform to play it's games on (playstation, pc and xbox).
If nintendo was gonna go the software route, they would put their games on everything and probably create some kind of service. No reason to just pick one option and forget the rest. There's money in all of those options.
