Nintendo will always make a next/current gen console.

that's where you're wrong, they don't need to put their games on other consoles or pc, they could develop a service like steam for pc and other consoles. same thing right? no, It's not the same as just going third party because with a service like that their revenue is going to be bigger than just being third party. They have the library and IP for it. Still a platform, not hardware but still their own platform. 

Then why doesn't EA just put all of their games on their "service" and not launch any more individual games on consoles and pc? Because the service is not viable in and of itself compared to the other option. They profit more with individual releases of their games on all platforms. Also a gaming service still reguires a platform to play it's games on (playstation, pc and xbox). 

If nintendo was gonna go the software route, they would put their games on everything and probably create some kind of service. No reason to just pick one option and forget the rest. There's money in all of those options.
