So much wrong with this post.

This has nothing to do with Sony.  stop drawing up a tangent that's completely irrelevant.

Secondly I didn't say I want Nintendo to leave the handheld market.  I'm simply just analysing the current dying handheld market and booming mobile market and saying what they should do.  This isn't personal buddy.

the handheld market isn't really dying though. there is a good chance that the 3DS ends up pretty close to the GBA in terms of sales. The DS was an anamoly, you don't use anamolies as the average of a market or the normal basis of comparison

I repeat it a million times, but if the handheld market is 'dying' and despite that the 3DS is by far the second best selling console on the market (handheld and home all considered) then that means that most likely handheld AND home console gaming would be dying as a whole

I mean the 3DS is a year older than the Xbox One yet easily seems to be outselling it every week. Different markets somewhat, sure, but obviously the 3DS is doing fine when compared to some of the competition (the PS4 being the only thing outperforming it currently)

people also forget that Nintendo does make money from ALL of their system sales. this is not the same for Sony and Microsoft. They don't really want to abandon making money off off hardware. They also make LOADS from accessory sales. memory cards, pro controllers, random expansions, etc.

if the NX is a moderate success and their next handheld does similar numbers to the 3DS, then it would likely be very hard for Nintendo match that from mobile sales, even if they did insanely well with them.

I think Nintendo's best bet is to attack both markets. They always make sure to make money off of their handhelds and home consoles (hence why the Wii U has never been really reduced much at all in price). if you're making money from both sectors then why abandon them? its illogical

Very well written post.  There's a valid argument for both sides.  Personally I think the dedicated handheld market will shrink by a large margin again.  I guess we just have to wait 2/3 years and see.
