The xbox is no longer just the console but the OS. That was the plan all along. If you want to play Xbox, you can do it anywhere the Microsoft OS is applicable.

It's a service but yes, this has been the goal from the start and they have different platforms, PC/console/tablet/smartphone, to release it to. So the whole "doom/not doom" discussion regarding XBox is unnecessary.
