This Berserk anime seems like a sequel to the other anime rather than stand alone retelling of that story line. It starts really far into the timeline and you really don't know what's going on. I rather it start around when he met Griffith and go from there. They have to consider that people new to berserk are watching it. I've watched the other anime of it but haven't read of the manga. I don't like the animation. It's a huge turnoff.

The thing with Berserk is that the starting point was probably seen as a little tricky. The original anime at least covered a bit of the Black Swordsman arc before digging into the Golden Age arc with gusto. There was then a three movie remake that started around 2012 that remade the entire Golden Age arc in three movies, following Guts from when he meets Griffith to the very, very brutal finale before Guts would turn into the Black Swordsman, but without doing any of the Black Swordsman arc.

With that in mind, starting from the Golden Age arc yet again would have been legitimately frustrating in the third adaptation. The smartest place to start would have been the Black Swordsman arc to get Puck introduced properly through putting the arc into two or three episodes insteading of twisting things around in the 2016 adaptation. From there they could have passed over the Golden Age arc and continued into Convinction keeping the natural story progression of the source material.

Berserk 2016 is clearly going to be a lot of missed storytelling and artistic opportunities, but hopefully it manages to scrape by as a respectable project in its own right.
