I personally don't believe 1 square kilometer is the same in every game. If this measurement is correct, it would mean that the Hyrule from BotW is nearly ten times bigger thank Skyrim. Furthermore, Xenoblade Chronicles X's Mira is allegedly even bigger than this interpretation of Hyrule, and honestly, it doesn't feel that much larger than Skyrim, probably because of character movement, speed and other factors, which obviously are all different in every game.
