I see Mario releasing on both platforms not being a problem at all for the system if Zelda isn't.

The only reason they are doing Zelda on Wii U, (if they even still do) is because they promised it for that console so many times and don't want to incur the wrath of their core fans. The next big Mario game was never promised for Wii U, so it makes no sense to release it there.
