It was OK, a big step down from the original though which is still enjoyable to this day.

The new characters were all bland as dry bread they can't carry the film and there's no tension as a result because you don't really care about them.

Goldblum was good but given nothing to do really in the third act aside from a very cheesy sequence with his dad (Judd Hirsch, who is also back and quite good).

Star Trek's Brent Spiner is also back and he's quite good this time in a larger role.

The aliens just don't give off a sense of fear in this one though. The film just has no weight to it and jumps around a bunch of different character plot lines.

The lack of Will Smith hurts. My favorite new characters were the guys on the ship, they had one funny sequence that worked well.

I'd say it was a good deal better than the awful Terminator Genesys from last year, but not quite as good as Jurassic World. The lack of David Arnold for the score is really evident, though they did reuse the original themes for a few moments.
