I'd argue it's a mather of bias. Because from your example (Michael Bay), I'd say both are guilty of the same sins.

Hey, it's not like I give Nintendo a free pass, I've spent most of the last year ripping them to shreds. I may be a miserable pessimistic elitist, but make sure everyone gets a turn at feeling my childish wrath. ;)
