We moved away from carts  for reasons that are becoming less relevant as time  goes by  and technology improves. Flash memory technology is getting cheaper and more efficent. Cartridge prices are getting really low.  There is no longer a major size constraint, etc. So why stick with fragile disc when cartridges have become stable again?

Discs have evolved to, besides discs are cheaper. And ultra hd blu ray drives have a pretty decent bandwith.
