Yeah you're right I didn't understand what you were getting at, I apologize. I can definitely understand where you are coming from, family friendly entertainment is certainly in decline which isn't a good thing at all. It's very commendable that unlike most parents you actually monitor your children's usage. Nintendo consoles are definitely the best and safest place for family entertainment. |
To be fair its not my kids. Its my niece and nephew. I'm the godfather to my niece and raised my nephew since he was 1. They're at gaming age now and I had a talk with my brothers and they decided that it was best to raise them retro and work up from there. The only game console that they use that can use online is my Wii U. They like to play SM3DW, the Wii Sports games and Captain Toad along with other games like Nintendoland and Mario Kart 8. They really got hooked on Splatoon.
Its easy to forget that gaming isn't just about yourself until you are responsible for someone else. Then when you're looking for entertainment options for them you really see how much gaming has changed. I remember games like Aero the Acrobat, Uniracers, Stunt Race FX and Ristar. Almost all the games that are family oriented are gone. E3 is nothing but a gore fest filled with zombies, guns, and violence. Its getting harder and harder to find a game that is just a good game that everyone can play that isn't Nintendo branded. When Nintendo stops making consoles, then I'm out. I don't think I can trust MS or Sony with my family.
