It certainly beats rebooting something for a 3rd time like Spiderman, and they are retaining some sort of story continuity even if some of it is retconned, so I'll give them props for that. |
If you are asking about ID4 sequel, it's a full on sequel not a reboot.
The story is about how the aliens have been watching us and planning their revenge after they got beaten last time. Over those 20 years, earth has also been planning and now we about to have a show down.
