You could travel to Lavos after around 1-2 hrs into the game actually.

Anyway, I think Vivster is right. It sounds like there are side quests that will let you power up and reveals more of the story.

Well, if you wanted to beat the game. I've yet to see someone 1-2 hours in the game actually beat lavos without new game plus. BoTW has been confirmed to be completable even with your lowly stats.
