There is an important difference, MS overshipped, Nintendo didn't.

Splatoon gap in sales/shipments was 50k in japan, most likely barely over 300K WW. (which should still mean something like 3.75m WW)

 

We all know MS overship like crazy, there most likely over 1.5 million difference between sold and shipped, if not more.

 

Not to mention that Splatoon is almost for sure gonna be a NX thing at this point, so let's just be over this, even if for some miracle Halo 5 will outsell the Wii U version, no way it beat NX+Wii U combined.
