How about World Trigger ?

It's as long running and shounen as it's going to get when it comes from the same magazine as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach via weekly shounen jump ...

Tried it, no luck... It definitely is shounen and I can see it, but it feels like Fairy Tail to me... And I am not all that sold on Fairy Tail either...

Depends on how recent you're thinking...but Hunter x Hunter and Assassination Classroom both get high marks from me, even if both feel pretty unique for the genre. If Boku no Hero Academia gets renewed, I'd recommend trying that out as well...I'm loving it so far.

There's also Jojo...pretty much the epitome of shounen right there.

Hunter x Hunter is pretty old (returning though) and Assassination Classroom looks promising, but anime wise it's near dead. Same goes for Hero Academia...

And I lump Jojo with the likes of YuYu Hakusho... A bit too on the "manry" side...

If someone knows a manga that has...

  • Teen main characters
  • Realistic body proportions
  • Takes place on Earth but is not slice of life or crime related
  • No psychological themes
  • Fantasy
  • Male protagonist
  • Shounen
  • Fighting manga
  • Has at least a 150 chapter backlog
  • No older than 2008...
As it stands, the only manga I know that still fill the void are Bleach and Beelzebub...

I will ignore you badmouthing jojo and yuyu hakusho for now, but don't do that again...

As for a shounen that goes with your characteristics, one i can think of is Medaka Box, it's really good. At least the manga is, never saw the anime of it. The first few chapters are kind of SoL-like, but then it goes full on shonen after those. Might want to check that one out.
