The thing is Disney sent that movie to die and chose to focus their marketing efforts on other projects. That's why when it came out nobody knew about it.
All studios do stuff like this every year, whenever they believe focusing on another movie will make up for the losses the initial movie will create.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is not one of those movies, it had a huge marketing push that probably goes beyond $150M and the movie budget itself that is reportedly $170M. All for a movie that should not have even happened.
