For physical games swapping discs shouldn't be an issue. However selling digital versions of multi disc games is an obstacle I'm not sure they will resolve. More people will play the multi disc games if they are sold cheap digitally.

A mistake in this article by the way, its the Battlefield games that have texture installs. Technically that was never an issue because that stuff is treated as DLC. Also, they already found a solution for a GOTY titles with second disc installs like Fallout 3. When you insert the DLC disc, it downloads all the content.

Anyhow, there are numerous notable multi disc games on the 360. Glad they found a solution for X1 BC.

L.A. Noire was a multiple disc game and it is available digitally.

Digital versions of multi disc games arent the same as the physical version. They use DLC downloads versus multiple disc files.

For example, LA Noire's disc install would be a file for each disc and you would still swap discs. The digital version has a game file and numerous DLC files (less space given less redundant content). Hence, extra work is done to bring multi disc games to the online market. This is why few multi disc games are available digitally.

The easiest solution to bring multi disc games to the market would be some sort of software based disc swap, which has been done on Sony devices for PS1 emulation.
