Your Wii list is missing Pandora's Tower and Kirby's Return to Dreamland. (Which destroys Rainbow Curse) Also, Wii had more noteworthy third party exclusives, like Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Little King's Story, de Blob, Sonic Colours, (Which destroys Lost World and Boom) No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, etc. Also, as Einsam rightly points out, Wii had a proper Zelda, Metroid, and an ambitious 3D Mario all in its first 12 months. Library wise, Wii > Wii U by a signficant margin. |
The Wii U quality wise ironically probably as many decent third party games even with just a few months of support, Zombi U, Rayman, Call of Duty: BLOPS 2, Batman Arkham, Need for Speed, Tekken, had a decent start, shame it couldn't sustain itself.
Of course the Wii should have a better overall library, it had 6 years of support vs. 3 1/2 for the Wii U, but the Wii U isn't even that far off.
The main boom for the Wii was overwhelming market success but by and large what that mostly brought Nintendo fans was crappy third party shovelware and "me-too" fitness/dance soccer mom crap-athons.
Wii's Zelda was ripped off from a GameCube game with controls slapped onto it, remove that and Wii's first year is alright but probably a fair sized step down from the GameCube's first year.
To be honest I think I enjoyed my Wii U more than the Wii. While the two Mario Galaxy games are outstanding achievements, beyond that I found Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario 3D World as my other favorite games as they're on Wii U. Wii U also has the better Mario Kart and Smash Brothers which is not too shabby. And once you get used to Nintendo games in HD, you never want to go back, gimme HD over waggle any day, it never really added much to things like Mario Galaxy or DKC anyway.
Generally speaking though I won't miss the Wii brand (Wii or Wii U) much at all, did not like this era too much, the Wii U fizzling out completely is just the low point. Much prefer the N64/GCN or NES/SNES eras.
