Nintendo Land doesn't even come close to Wii Sports. I played Nintendo Land a total of two sessions with friends, Wii Sports i played for years. Also you forgot Zelda Skyward Sword. And comparing two great Galaxy games to one Mario 3D World game doesn't add up. The fact is Wii's motion controls were a succes and Wii-U's tablet controller isn't. |
In the long run though motion control largely is irrelevant to modern gaming, mostly because large movement based tracking is fairly imprecise.
Wii Sports was fun to play with an uncle or aunt for 30-40 minutes, but Nintendo Land is the better "game" IMO, it's still simple to pick up and play but has far more content.
But realistically something being a success or not shouldn't really affect ones enjoyment of a product. The caveat to that is success with a game platform can be good because it leads to good third party support, but the Wii really didn't even get that, it just got a ton of shitty shovelware and fitness/dance games for soccer moms.
So in that context what really did the Wiimote do for Nintendo fans? In a "core" game experience, truth be told, I find Splatoon uses motion control more effectively than any Wii title, the aiming setup legitimately makes it a better game, but it isn't done in a "in your face! Look at these people waving their arms around!" type way.
