People may disagree with him, but those are some seriously childish reactions to his decision. I have the same kind of thought towards the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies; the last one was shit, I won't even watch the next one that's coming, but will fondly remember the old ones with glorious nostalgia glasses.
I wasn't hugely impressed with Star Wars either, this is hardly groundbreaking that a fan of something is disappointed with the way an IP is handled, it happens in gaming all the time.
The all female cast isn't a problem for me; the fact that it was the main selling point was more of an issue, they seemed more keen on making social commentary than a quality movie in a beloved franchise. Not unlike the debacle around the belated expansion to Baldur's Gate, which got both needless hate and a lot of warranted, proper criticism.
People have a problem telling the two apart, it seems.
